Colorado Marriage License Requirements

By Yolanda Nash If you are getting married in Colorado then you need to know the marriage license laws. So below I have listed the laws and regulations for receiving a marriage license in the state of Colorado. The fee for your marriage license in Colorado is a mere $10.00 to be paid by cash or check. You do not need to take a blood test. The legal age without parental consent is 18 years of age. Applicants who are 16 and 17 years of age must have parental consent from both parents. A parent who has sole custody of a minor will be required to sign a statement to this fact. If one or both of the parents cannot appear at the time of applying for the license, an absentee application may be completed and notarized ahead of time. This is to be presented when the marriage license is issued. Applicants 15 years of age or younger, must obtain a court order granting judicial approval as well as complying with the above requirements. The court order must be obtained in the county where judicial approval has been granted. You must have a form of picture identification such as drivers license, military ID, birth certificate, visa or state identification card. You must have a social security number. If you do not you must sign an affidavit before applying for your marriage license. Both the bride and the groom must appear when applying for the marriage license. If one can not appear you must obtain an absentee application from the county clerk. If you are widowed or recently divorced you do not need to show proof. You will be put under oath that you are telling the truth. A marriage can be solemnized by a judge of a court of record, a public official whose powers include solemnization of marriages, or in accordance with any mode of solemnization recognized by any religious denomination or Indian nation or tribe. As of August 1993, couples themselves can solemnize their own marriage. Colorado allows cousin marriages. License is valid for 30 days only. These are the laws and regulations as of date. I would suggest that you still call your local county or city clerk and confirm the information above. Yolanda is the owner of Yolandas Wedding Favors.
