How To Use Humor Successfully In Your Business Communications

Friday, February 29th, 2008

By Suzan St Maur For generations people have been saying that laughter is good medicine. And now the scientists have taken an interest it turns out great-grandma was right. The boffins have discovered that laughter releases helpful goodies in the body which boost your immune system. In fact the therapeutic benefits of laughter are now being harnessed by academia and the business community into laughter workshops and other formalized chuckle sessions. Get the workers laughing and you raise productivity, so it seems. However it is extremely easy to get humor wrong. And a joke that’s sent to someone who doesn’t see the funny side will create more ill health through raised blood pressure than a few laughs could ever cure. So what’s the answer? How do we harness humor and make it work for us, not against us? People often say that the internet’s international nature makes it an unsuitable environment for humor for fear of it not translating across national boundaries - and inadvertently causing offense. But there are a couple of simple rules which - although not universal panaceas that always work - can help you use humor without risk. Use humor about situations, not people. If you think about it, the butt of many jokes and other humor is a person or group of people, so it’s hardly surprising that offense is caused. The more extreme types are obvious - mother-in-law jokes, blonde jokes, women jokes, men jokes - but there are many more subtle ones too. Then there are the nationality gags. I remember in one year hearing exactly the same joke (in three different languages) told by an American about the Polish, by a Canadian about Newfoundlanders, by a French person about Belgians, by a French-speaking Belgian about the Flemish, and by a Flemish person about the Dutch. Obviously most humor is going to involve people in one way or another. But as long as the butt of the joke is a situation or set of circumstances, not the people, you’re far less likely to upset anyone. And there is an added advantage here. Whoever they are and wherever they come from, people will usually identify with a situation. Take this one for example… Some people are driving along at night and are stopped by a police car. The officer goes to the driver and warns him that one of the rear lights on his SUV isn’t working. The driver jumps out and looks terribly upset. The officer reassures him that he won’t get a ticket, it’s just a warning, so there’s no problem. “Oh yes there is a problem,” says the man as he rushes towards the back of the car. “if you could see my rear lights it means I’ve lost my trailer.” As the butt of the joke is the broken rear light and the loss of the trailer, not the policeman or the driver, no-one can be offended. And most people can identify with how that would feel. The other key issue with humor is wordplays, puns, and anything else that’s based on figurative speech, slang, or jargon. The short answer is they don’t work internationally. However if the play or double entendre is in the concept rather than the words, it probably will work. These may be funny to us, but would not be understood by anyone who is not a good English speaker because there is a play on the words: * Deja moo: The feeling that you’ve heard this bull before. * The two most common elements in the universe are hydrogen and stupidity. These, however, probably would be understood because the humor is in the concept, not in the words themselves: * You don’t stop laughing because you grow old. You grow old because you stop laughing. * The trouble with doing something right the first time is that nobody appreciates how difficult it was. Overall, I think it’s wise to use humor as a spicy condiment in your business comms. And just as you would with the chili powder, use it in moderation if you don’t know the audience well … and if you know they have a very sensitive palate, don’t use it at all! Payday Loans - What Will It Really Cost You?

Friday, February 29th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Fashun_Smith]Fashun Smith PAYDAY LOANS When you have fallen on hard times financially, or you are looking to move to the next stage in your life by purchasing your own car or house, the options presented you can appear risky and unsatisfactory. Faced with things like high interest rates, the possibility of falling into debt, or further into debt, and the looming prospect of the credit check, it may seem like a better idea to just struggle on month to month rather than dropping into a possible quagmire out of which you can’t extract yourself. However, acquiring a loan isn’t as scary as it seems. Times have changed since years ago when the stiff, cigar-puffing loans officers seemed to approve and deny loans based on mood or their opinion on the color of your tie. These days, it is not the loan officer who has the upper hand, and you who are the beggar. You have the upper hand. Loan officers are desperate for clients to loan to, for a couple of very simple reasons. Firstly, fewer people are taking out loans these days. Secondly, the interest rates on loans are where banks get much of their revenue. Banks operate by taking deposits from clients and paying them a small interest. They then give loans to other clients and extract a larger interest from them, one that more than covers the interest given on the small deposits. And that’s where you come inas long as you have decent credit, a good job, and know how to shop around, you shouldn’t have trouble getting a loan, so long as it’s within your means. Of course, big loans aren’t the only ones around. For those that find themselves in a temporary financial bind out of which they cannot get on their own, there are such things as short term loans. Such short-term loans, often called “character” loans because they relied on the client’s good word and reputation, used to be in much larger supply, but then fell back with the rise of credit cards and the loss of banking’s localization. Now they’re on the way back, and larger numbers of traditional banks are offering them. Almost one in five loans now fall into this category. But what is a short term loan? Short term loans average around $2300, and come with a term of around two years. The interest rates tend to be lower than those of credit cards, hence the draw. These personal loans are most often approved or disapproved within one to three days of the application, and one of the biggest perks is that once the term is over, you’re doneno minimum monthly payments as you would have with credit cards that keep you saddled with debt and your interest soaring higher and higher. If you need a small loan, you can visit a payday lenderalthough it’s a good idea to avoid this as best you can. Payday lenders can front your small loans, usually between $100 and $1000, but the terms are short and the interest rates are high, so if you’re too quick to take out a payday loan, you could find yourself in worse shape than you were to begin with. Before you take out any kind of loan, be it a small short term loan to get the rent paid in a tight month, or a larger loan for a car or house, don’t simply head straight to one bank and get started. You wouldn’t waste a bunch of money on a pair of pants when you knew you could get the exact same brand, exact same pair somewhere else for much cheaper, so why wouldn’t you shop around when it comes to much larger sums? Most people don’t, but don’t fall into the trap of believing that just because you’re dealing with big money you can’t bargain. Shop around, compare rates and service, and once you’re in that little office face to face with your loan officer, remember your position as a clientthey need you. Most customers are all too willing to accept the interest rate offered them, but loan officers usually have a minimum rate they can lower it tothey just need you to help them along. Business Loan Problems - The Two Worst Things That Could Happen

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Stephen_Bush]Stephen Bush It is important to have an understanding of what can go wrong with a business loan. The focus of this article is on two situations that will have the most severe financial consequences. A loan disapproval at an early point in the application process is not included here because it is not likely to have the immediate financial consequences of the examples provided below. Business owners should be prepared in advance for these problematic circumstances so that they can develop contingency plans. RECALL OF A COMMERCIAL LOAN Recall provisions allow the lender to call the loan (forcing the borrower to repay early) prior to the expiration of the loan. This issue is not of concern to commercial borrowers whose business loan does not contain provisions permitting the lender to recall the loan. However many traditional commercial lenders routinely place recall clauses in their loan agreements. The conditions which can trigger a recall will vary but will commonly include periodic review of financials and credit history by the lender. Under these circumstances if agreed levels of income and credit standards are not met, then the bank will typically notify the commercial borrower that they must pay off the loan within a 30-90 day period. When confronted with a recall notification, commercial borrowers will have little recourse other than to seek refinancing from another lender. In seeking alternative sources of commercial financing, prudent borrowers will eliminate potential lenders who will impose similar recall provisions in new financing. To avoid the recall situation in the first place, commercial borrowers would be wise to consider only commercial loans which will not have recall terms. For commercial borrowers who currently have recall provisions in their commercial financing agreement but have not yet received a recall of their loan, it will be equally wise to consider refinancing their business loan before such a recall occurs so that refinancing is accomplished according to the commercial borrower’s timetable and not that of the current commercial lender. COMMERCIAL PROPERTY APPRAISAL COSTS AND RESULTS The commercial appraisal process is lengthy, expensive and relatively uncontrollable in terms of results. Commercial mortgage appraisals will be more expensive for specialized commercial properties such as assisted living facilities. Appraisals for a stated income loan will usually be more costly because the lender is primarily depending on credit scores and a thorough appraisal to support the loan. Commercial appraisals are like to cost more for commercial properties in rural areas because qualified appraisers may not be available locally. The timetable for completing an appraisal is another potential source of problems, and until the appraiser is selected and commits to a schedule, the completion date is not likely to be known with any degree of accuracy (and this issue alone can result in a longer processing period for the loan). Even though cost and schedule are critical issues, an even bigger issue is the appraisal value that is provided by the appraisal. It is certainly not unusual to receive an appraisal that produces a value that is less than the commercial borrower expects. A similar (but avoidable) problem occurs when a commercial appraisal is not accepted by the lender because the appraiser did not provide an appraisal meeting basic guidelines. As one example, a key element of a commercial appraisal is the valuation based on analysis of income. If an appraiser chooses to submit an appraisal based only on comparable sales data even though the lender stipulated in the engagement letter that an income appraisal is required, then the lender will not accept the appraisal (and is likely to refuse a modified report including the missing data from the appraiser when they violate such a basic appraisal requirement). It is extremely important to realize that there might be significant assets which will not be included in the value. Items such as equipment and furniture are frequently excluded, especially in commercial real estate loans. For businesses such as funeral homes and assisted living facilities, it is very common for the overall business value to be much higher than the real estate value. But an appraisal based on the real estate value will nevertheless exclude the excess business value from the commercial real estate value. What contingency plans are advisable for the appraisal process? First, be prepared for the appraisal to be more expensive than initially expected and ensure that funds are available to cover this possibility. Second, be prepared for the appraisal to take longer than expected. If buying a business property, the buyer should discuss this possibility in advance with the seller. If refinancing, the owner should not make plans for spending funds until the appraisal has been finalized and the lender indicates their readiness to close the loan. Third, consider in advance what action to take if the appraisal produces a lower value than expected. Fourth, decide if an additional appraisal is warranted (this possibility needs to be considered especially for the situation in which the appraisal is not accepted by the lender). Weight Loss Diet

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

By Nathalie Fiset Women had always been conscious of their weight. The trend for some had been to look pencil-thin to be called beautiful. Still, there are some women who prefer to look “healthier”, meaning, not being too skinny, balancing their weight with their actual height. Some women who wanted immediate results on their dieting scheme tend to crash-diet, meaning they deprive themselves the needed food by their bodies. For those who starve themselves, they usually are the ones who are most prone to binging, thus, packing on more pounds than they had shed during their limited food intake. Below are some tips on dieting to help eliminated or lose weight the safe and effective way. Eat small meals. Most people, especially women, tend to eat when they are bored or have nothing else to do. Some use food to console or reward themselves over some things or events in their lives. The best way to limit food intake is to eat only when hunger strikes, and in doing so, by taking only small meals. If an individual is used to eating 3 slices of bread, cutting it down to 1, as a starter, would be a good idea. By cutting down the amount of food intake, but taking it more frequently, the individual would not feel that he or she is hungry since they are still ingesting food when need, though at an amount which is much healthier. For example, instead of skipping eating breakfast and then eating a big lunch, it would be best to eat breakfast and then eat a smaller lunch. Choose the foods to snack on. Office workers tend to snack on sugary goodies available on vending machines in their offices. What an individual has to do to limit the temptation to snack on these is to store nutrition packed foods such as the following: 1. Dried fruits (raisins, figs, apricots) 2. low-fat Granola bars 3. whole wheat pretzels 4. puddings which are low-in fat 5. power bars 6. low-fat popcorns 7. dry-roasted mixed nuts 8 Eat foods high in fiber. Recent studies have shown that an increase in the intake of fiber-rich foods can contribute to weight loss. Fiber aids in the digestion process and makes an individual feel fuller at a much longer period of time, thus contributing to the decrease in the urge to eat. Foods high in fiber includes apples, pears, whole grains like pasta and wheat, lima beans and turnip green. Drink lots of water. Water replaces lost fluids in the body. It likewise aids in the digestion process. Drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day may reduce pangs of hunger since it makes the individual feel fuller, thus minimizing the urge to eat. It also flushes our toxins in the body and aids the kidney to function properly. It would be advisable to carry or have water nearby all the time. Office workers might want to have a container of water on their table so as to remind one self to drink. During small walks or jogs at the park, it would likewise be advisable to carry a jug of water for easy reach. Stress and sleep levels. If an individual who wants to lose weight deprives one self of the much-needed sleep, he or she might feel tired and sluggish during the day. Such fatigue might be confused with hunger or the need to eat, thus a weight losing idea buster. Sleep at least 8 hours a day, or whatever number of hours best suits the individual. It has been noted by some researchers that the ideal number of hours of sleep varies from person to person. Teenagers whose growth hormones are kicking, might need at least 10 hours of sleep, while older people feel re-charged and rested on a four-hour sleep. Stress on the other hand is said to promote a physiological change which might make loosing weight a hard task. A stressed body releases a hormone called cortisol. Said hormone encourages build up of fat cells in the abdomen as a result to response of the body to stress. Still, the idea of loosing weight should be done only for some very important matters. If issues of weight cause some health problems, it would be good idea, but to want to loose weight (even if one already feels satisfied with his or her looks) just because others told you so to look beautiful would not be very wise. Live a healthy life and be happy. Dr Nathalie Fiset is a family doctor and a certified hypnotherapist. Hurricane Planning and Your Medicine Availability

Monday, February 25th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Lance_Winslow] Lance Winslow During the 2006 Atlantic tropical hurricane season there will no doubt be many mandatory evacuations required by law in the great state of Florida and along the Gulf Coast of the United States of America. For those that fail to evacuate or decide to have hurricane parties it behooves you to consider your medication requirements. If you are taking prescription drugs then you need at least a four-week supply if you decide to wait out the hurricane. Even small hurricanes can bring lots of precipitation and flooding and roads, power and even water supplies may be out for weeks. This means you will be stranded without food or water and therefore you will need supplies. But just because you have adequate food supplies does not mean you’re okay if you take medication, because all the pharmacies will be closed there will be no way to get help to you. Be sure to ask your doctor to give you enough prescription supplies to last you thru a three to four-week period that you may have. If you decide to violate the law and shun your responsibility you need to think ahead here. If you have medication, which is keeping you live or keeping you from severe illness you must have the supplies available to take during any catastrophic or major storm, which may or may not hit your region. Plan ahead and don’t be dead. Consider this in 2006. “Lance Winslow” - Online [http://www.WorldThinkTank.net/wttbbs/] Think Tank forum board. B2B Directory Marketing For Business Professionals

Sunday, February 24th, 2008

By Tino Buntic Part of being a B2B business professional is marketing your services to your target market. There are dozens of ways to go about this and dozens of different marketing techniques that you can use advertising, telemarketing, blogging, networking just to name a few. All of these marketing methods work, some better than others, but being a business professional you should incorporate a variety of techniques to get your marketing message out. One easy way to get started is to add your services to online B2B directories. A B2B directory is a business directory categorized for easy navigation by people searching for your products and services. Why are B2B directories a good place to start? It is easy and takes little time to do so. Doing a Google search for “B2B directory” provides over 14,000,000 results, everything from general directories to niche directories. You obviously cant submit your services to all of them but a good bet would be to submit your services to one or two dozen of the most appropriate directories. If you have a website, most directories allow you to add a link to your site. Otherwise, you can include other ways for prospects to contact you, including a telephone number or email. All business professionals must perform B2B marketing services to get their name out there and generate new business. Submitting to business directories is just a start, but it is a good start. Tino Buntic created TradePals, a B2B directory of business professionals and entrepreneurs across The United States and Canada, providing free advertising and sales leads to its members. Tino enjoys reading Jeff Kershner’s Dealer Refresh blog, providing observations and opinions of a automotive internet sales manager. The Calling of God

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

By Mark E. Baker Romans 11:29 For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable. Before the world was created God knew each one of us, and had preordained us to good works. Good works of course are the things He wants us to accomplish while we are here on the Earth. He has called us and equipped each of us to fulfill the things He has predestined for us. Whether we use our giftings for His glory, and to fulfill His will is our choice and our choice alone. We will never be forced or pushed, yet He will never take these gifts from us. We are all born into this world unique, no two of us are exactly the same. Although we may share certain qualities and features with others, we still have a unique set of talents and abilities. With God’s given talents and abilities and by the leading of the Holy Spirit, we can fulfill our destiny. If we dont, we really have no one to blame but ourselves. Many get sidetracked or discouraged and fall from their true purpose. There are so many reasons for this, everything from bad life choices to out and out disobedience. We cant undo the past but we can start right now to walk in the gifts and calling of God. I know what its like to get side tracked and become discouraged, and loose my way on lifes journey. However, I have found that when I truly turned back to Him, and gave myself over to Him, that all was not lost as the devil had made me believe. I had lost my purpose for a time, yet God restored my dream and gave me a vision. His Word saysProverbs 29:18 Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he. One translation says; Where there is no revelation. This is a way of saying you have to have clear insight of what God has for your life. You have to have a clear vision of your purpose if you are ever going to fulfill your calling, and become what God has called you to be. If you dont have a clear vision, you wont know where you are to go. There are many within the body of Christ like this, they just exist. They are just there. They have no clear vision of what they are to accomplish. They may have individual goals but this does not mean that they know Gods purpose for their life, or that their goals are in line with Gods goals for their life. If you dont know your destiny, how will you ever fulfil it? You may say, what are you talking about. Im saying that if you are wanting to get to point B from point A and you dont know where point B is then you will never arrive. You have to have clear direction and know where the Lord is taking you if you are ever to arrive. This does not mean you will know every detail of the journey. We walk by faith and not by sight. We walk one day at a time. When God want us to do something different or go on from where we are currently, He will tell us. When He tells you to do something keep doing it until He gives you other instructions. You can go by what He doesnt say many times by as much as what He does say. We all have choices to make in life, school, career, marriage, where we live, and so on.Many times people let their emotions lead them, and allow their feelings to dictate what they are to do. We have all seen it. This is not the leading of the Holy Spirit. This is usually a fleshly reaction to circumstances that leads to walking by sight and not by faith. This is often a result of we ourselves seeking to fulfill our own goals and ambitions. Im certainly not saying it is wrong to have goals or be ambitious, I am saying we should have our goals in line with Gods will. God will give His children clear direction. The Word tells us, For as many as are led by the Spirit of God they are the sons of God. (Rom:8:14)He will lead us by His Spirit. He could not hold us accountable for our actions if He gave us no clear direction could He? Yet we have a part to play in this, we have to avail ourselves of Him. We have to spend time in prayer and spend time in His presence, if we are ever going to hear Him. This is the first step we all must take before we step out and go. You have to know where you are going. After we have direction, we have to have prepare ourselves. There is a time of preparation and study. Ive heard it said that God doesnt call the equipped, He equips the called. God will not tell us to go if we have not been equipped to go. In other words, He will equip you before He sends you. He doesnt send babies out to do battle, He sends mature men and women of God. There will always be a time of learning and development. Take advantage of your time and learn from your Pastor and elders, those who have care over your soul. Listen to them! He will teach you and instruct you, and as you grow in grace and understanding, He will give you more revelation. We all have to start at the beginning; there are no short cuts in the kingdom of God. Revelation builds upon itself. God can not reveal the deep truths if you can not grasp the basics can He. Its not that He doesnt want us to understand, it is that we can not receive more until we have received little, and been obedient with what we already have. He just doesnt work that way. I believe that He keeps things from us knowing full well that we just couldnt handle more in our present babyhood state. We get in a hurry sometimes and just want it all thinking we could handle it when we really could not. The end would be disastrous for us. Our Father loves us too much for that. It is no different with earthly parents raising children. A loving parent would not make a child responsible for something that requires a much greater level of experience and understanding. You would not tell a 6-year-old to get in the car, drive to the grocery store, and buy the groceries for the week would you? I realize this may sound funny, yet many Christians do the same types of things. They get full of zeal and feel that they can just go out and fulfill their calling without putting in the time to learn, and gain the necessary experience that it takes to be successful. God doesnt call babies into battle any more than we would tell a toddler to go out and cut the grass. When my son was about 4 years old, he used to follow me around the yard with a toy lawnmower and pretend he was cutting the grass. The reality was that he wasnt accomplishing as much as he really thought he was. Although I look back on those times with fondness, as a loving father I would have never given him the real responsibility of cutting the grass. It would have been an extremely unsafe situation for him, not to mention he just could not have handled it. It was quite a few years before he really was able to cut the grass on his own. By that time, I dont think he thought it was as much fun as it used to be. Our Heavenly Father knows what we can accomplish and what we cannot. Sometimes we just need to be realistic about where we are in our faith walk before we can go on to the next level. He gives us what we can handle and are willing to walk in. Its our part to be willing and receptive when that happens. We often think we are waiting on God when the truth is, He is waiting on us. It takes a certain level of faith to even receive our calling, and begin to walk in it. If you were to receive your calling as a young immature Christian, you would most likely to be overwhelmed and get discouraged. Growth and development is a natural process, and it is no different in the spiritual realm. We have to grow before we can go. It was no different with our Lord. The Word says And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men. (Luke 2:52) In order to fulfill the plan of God Jesus had to increase in wisdom and stature. In other words, He had to grow up in the things of God as well as the things of the world. The Apostle Paul says this that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness by which they lie in wait to deceive, 15 but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head Christ. (Ephesians 4:14) There is a purpose for our growth. God wants us to succeed, and we have to be mature and fully equipped in order to accomplish His perfect will. Some people think of this as drudgery, yet it is an honor to fulfill the calling of God. There is no more miserable Christian than one who has walked away from his or her God given purpose. Regardless of what your calling is, you will never be truly happy until you realize it, and begin to walk in it. Regardless of whether or not you feel like you are important or not, there are no unimportant parts within the body of Christ!  Each part of the body must do their part or the whole body suffers collectively.  If the body is healthy we all benefit collectively.  The part that you might think is unimportant might be the part that supplies the very thing that you need to function at your best. It takes the whole body functioning in harmony to be healthy. I would like to leave with three Scriptures written by three Apostles as an admonishment. 1 Peter 1:17 And if you call on the Father, who without partiality judges according to each one’s work, conduct yourselves throughout the time of your sojourning here in fear; Take advantage of your time, you only have it once. Ephesians 2:10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. 1 John 3:11 For this is the message that you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another, Do you know Jesus as your Lord and Savior? Do you want to be a joint heir with Christ? If so, I urge you to earnestly pray the following prayer. Dear Heavenly Father, I come to you in the name of Jesus. Your word says, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out. (Jn.6:37), So I know You wont cast me out, but You take me in, And I thank you for it. You said in your Word, “whoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Ro. 10:13). I am calling on Your name, So I know You have saved me now, You also said, that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes to righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made to salvation. (Ro.10:9,10). I believe in my heart that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. I believe He was raised from the dead for my justification. And I confess Him now as my Lord, Because Your Word says, with the heart one believes to righteousness and I do believe with my heart, I have now become the righteousness of God in Christ. (2 Cor. 5:21), And I am saved! Thank You, Lord!I can now truthfully say, I see myself as a born again child of God!Glory to God!!!! Amen. I was raised Catholic, and was born again at the age of 17. I received God’s call into ministry at the age of 19 and began to prepare for ministry. I graduated from Rhema Bible Training Center in 1979. The Lord has called me to teach. My desire is to help all that are seeking to come into a deeper understanding of what God has done for us through Christ Jesus and I have started a web site for this purpose called The Olive Branch; Please visit us for more free studies and resources to help you on your journey. Second Dates - The Biggest Hurdle

Saturday, February 16th, 2008

By Bernadette Sukley There are two schools of thought for the second date. First make it quickdrinks and a conversation after work. That way you can leave or stay depending on how poorly or well its going. Then, the general rule is that the shorter the date, the less chance there is of saying or doing something totally stupid. Here are a few dos and donts when youre going for seconds. Dont make up your mind…yet. Dating is all about finding that person whos perfect for you. But its about having fun, too. Don’t cut your ties because youre not ready for commitment. Enjoy his laugh, listen to her jokes and reserve judgment. Do make a third date. Unless its clear that the other party isnt interested in you (she gets up and walks out the door), suggest that you both do it again in a week. Dont talk about how busy you are. We all are, nuff said. Do talk about the first date. Youve got memories now! As a couple, you have things that you shared and hopefully laughed about. You may even want to reveal how nervous you were. Or how you broke the heel of your shoe and hoped he didnt notice. Dont drink too muchyoull need your wits. And your drivers license. The goal is to get home and prepare for the third date. And then theres sex. If you didnt have sex on the first date: a.) good for you, but b.) you may feel a little pressure to either make a move or at least bring up the subject. According to different U.S. sex surveys, only about 5-10% of men and women think its okay to have sex on the first date. In the UK its closer to 75%. (That explains a lot, like: the Spice Girls, those double decker Routemasters, Prince Charles and whats-her-name.) Some men feel that women who say no are more attractive and consequently treated more respectfully. Other men may feel that she who holds out is just being manipulative. On the flip side, guys who make a move are seen as predacious but those who dont are seen as, well, like somethings wrong with them. Tough sitch, but honesty works. Discuss sex on the second date. Maybe after the small talk, drinks, or catching up on the day’s events. Something like: Hey listen, just want to clear the air. Id rather get to know you first before we well you know. And ladies, lay it on the tableif youre in it because hes cute and you like his booty, be clear because he may want something more. Like dinner with your parents.
